WWI Mediterranean Scenario Generator
Two era generators for tabletop play in the Mediterranean, 1914–1918. All distances are in yards. Play starts at the moment a submarine is spotted or a ship is hit by a torpedo.
Set Year and Season on both generators. Use Randomise Force to pick a historically weighted year, season, sector, cargo group and enemy boat. Use Search Destroyer Flotilla to draw a named Allied flotilla that actually worked that sector in that year.
Generator A — Early War (1914–1916): Independent Sail
Independent steamers, weak ASW, and a single boat. Destroyer cover, if any, is a patrol or a search flotilla, not a formed convoy screen. Greece is not yet an Allied escort navy. Japan is not yet in the Mediterranean.

Generator B — Convoy Era (1917–1918)
Formed convoys from mid-1917. Escorts may be British, French, Italian, Greek (from July 1917) or Japanese (2nd Special Squadron at Malta from April 1917). Search flotillas are drawn from the power that actually worked that route.

Notes on what the generator will and will not do
- Japan only appears from April 1917. The 15th Division (Momo-class) only appears from August 1917.
- Greece only appears as an escort navy from July 1917.
- Italy only appears from May 1915.
- All distances are in yards. Convert to your own table scale.
- Opening ranges follow wartime practice: periscopes inside about 2,000 yards; torpedoes often fired inside 1,200 yards; a hit puts the boat nearby, not over the horizon.
- Download Word makes a
.docfile that opens in Word or LibreOffice. Download PDF needs the page to reach the html2pdf script on the network.
